Our dojo

We are a small, non-commercial club focused on traditional Aikido. We strive to provide a safe environment, a focused atmosphere, and enjoyable training.

We are an international dojo with many expats training with us. Instruction is primarily in Danish, but you can expect help in English (and often German or French) when needed.

Aikido training includes unarmed techniques (locks, throws, pins), as well as weapons practice as taught in Japan. We do not compete in tournaments.

Youth Aikido

Children are taught Aikido in a non-competitive, friendly atmosphere emphasizing cooperation and mutual respect. Classes include warm-up, basic techniques, Aikido-related games, and learning to fall and roll safely.

Youth classes: Sundays at 11:00.

Our Sensei

Our Senseis Lene Martine Grotkjaer and Thomas Wessel Hansen hold the rank of Rokudan (6th dan) recognized by Aikikai Hombu Dojo, Tokyo. Both hold the title Shidoin and are authorized instructors through Hombu Dojo and the Danish Takemusu Aikido Federation (DTAF).

They trained in Japan and were uchideshi (live-in apprentices) under the late Morihiro Saito Sensei in the early 1990s. Today they are direct students of Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba and travel to Japan regularly to train at Hombu Dojo.

Visiting our dojo (guests and visitors)

Visitors are welcome to attend and observe any class. We appreciate that you contact us before visiting.

  • Free to train for one day
  • If you train more than once, we accept a donation of 50 DKK

Tourists and students from abroad should have no language problems during class (we all speak English), though lessons are conducted in Danish.

Important: Any requirements for entering Denmark (visa, lodging, etc.) are the sole responsibility of the individual.

Grades and insurance (for visiting aikidoka)
